PQ (Pennsylvania Quality) Reel Push Mower

Enter a word or two to search the forum section and click the Search Forum button.
I hope someone can help, I am restoring a 1926 push reel mower PQ (Pennsylvania Quality). I cannot find much information on it apart from a few old advertisements in a very few USA papers. Does anyone know of any collectors or places I can get any information parts catalogs or photos, etc.

I pulled it out of a shed where it had lain unused since about 1955. It is covered in surface rust but still works OK and apart from a few wear sections is in very good condition. I am currently stripping the rust from the parts, thankfully only surface rust, cleaning the timber sections all in fairly good condition except for sixty years of grime. then I shall dis-assemble and clean the gearbox etc. But what I really need help on is the colours and the signwriting.

I have searched all the USA options, there is no info in Australia (I live in Canberra) apart from a store catalogue from where it was purchased which I am trying to retrieve from the Archives.

Any assistance or advice would be appreciated

Hello and welcome to the Old Lawnmower Club, If you follow the link it should take you to a profile page on the Lloyds Pennsylvania roller push mower. You don't say which you have - roller or side wheel mower but either way it could be of interest to you. Good luck with the restoration, if you can a photo or two would be appreciated I am sure. Thanks for that Ray, In answer to your question it is neither a roller nor side wheel mower but a simple push roller mower (picture attached).

The handle fixings are different to the examples of the roller mower pictured in the link you provided, but the cast logo PQ is exactly the same, and the old advertisements state that this is the unique Pennsylvania patented handle, but they obviously did not use it for their larger side reel or roller mowers.

The green colour shown on the before and after pictures on the link looks pretty close to what is remaining on mine. However when i look it up on the colour charts i get the colour code K1.44.23! does anyone have any notion of what that is?

The mower that you show in the photo is what we in the UK would know as a sidewheel mower, the handle is certainly different to what I have seen. The paint code used by the OLC in the mower colours listing uses the NCS or Natural Colour System of paint colour identiffication.so hopefully a local paint supplier should be able to help.

Hi,

I've just added a couple of Pennsylvania ads to Mowerhead, my Facebook lawnmower page. They date from 1927 so are are contemporary to this machine and show a variety of models. Unfortunately they don't show the tops of the handles.

Hope this of interest,
